And the wines kept on coming…..
It’s been an interesting year so far.
I was expecting a bit of downtime in August as most of us do but for some reason it did not happen for me. Not that I am complaining or anything but I could do with a break now.
Looking back however, Prestige Agencies has achieved a great deal over the summer and our suppliers even more.
I have no doubt spoken to you about James Irvine, his Grand Merlot and the other fantastic range of wines he makes. His daughter Joanne is also a wine-maker. In fact she is a bloody good wine-maker and 2006 IWC International Red Wine-maker of the Year. Her Zinfandel Reserve 2003 won best in class too. This is an amazing achievement considering it is only her third vintage.
June saw me on an extraordinary a trip out to Oregon where the world-renowned Cristom wines originate. I was a guest at the Pinot Noir Camp and managed to taste hundreds of spectacular Noirs, Blancs and Gris. If you ever get the chance to do this trip, please do it.
Whilst in Oregon , I managed to firm up a new agency from the Yamhill region situated in the North West wine growing area. Elk Cove Wines will be in the UK from mid October. They are high scorers with Mr Parker and definitely worthy of the scores. The vineyard is the oldest in Oregon and certainly the most picturesque. The wine-maker, Adam Campbell is not as old and certainly not as picturesque but he certainly has talent. The wine list consists of a 2005 Pinot Gris, 2005 Pinot Blanc, 2004, Willamette Pinor Noir and the 2004 Roosevelt Pinot Noir.
The other agency joining my small but distinguished portfolio, is Mendel Wines from Argentina. Made by Roberto De La Mota, formerly of Terrazas’ de los Andes, this wine is another extremely low production “jewel” we managed to secure and consists of a Malbec retailing at about £13.00 and the Mendel Unus, a Malbec Cabernet blend retailing at £20.00.
Finally, a couple of merci beacoups:
Mike Coveney of Hill Top Wines who ‘dragged’ me out to Oregon and also Sophie Jump of JS Wine Solutions who helped with the launch of Mendel Wines at The Gaucho Grill

As usual, I look forward to talking to you in due course and if you’d like any information or indeed samples of any of my wines, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes
